I like this book but have to say it was a bit of a wonder to me. It wasn't as great as the first one Jacob in the series. It was just okay. I didn't feel the tension in the main characters that should have been there. There was action but not the tension needed to keep me there. The one character I wanted to spank and tell to go up. The vampire was soft and stern at turns where in the other books he showed up he was just amazing but in his own book he lacked something.Tags : Damien (The Nightwalkers, Book 4) [Jacquelyn Frank] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Vampire Prince, Damien, has heard about the recently located Nightwalker Library. When the Demon King, Noah, first asks Damien is he knows of any vampire scholars to join the other Nightwalker races in exploring the library, the answer is no. However, his most trustworthy vampire companion, Jasmine, seems to thrive on knowledge, curiosity, and intriguing ideas, making her the perfect vampire for the task. When Damien escorts Jasmine to the library, he spies Syreena, the younger sister of Siena (Queen of the Lycanthropes). Damien has been fascinated with Syreena's be-colored hair, opposite-set harlequin eyes, and fierce protective nature ever since he met her in the recent past.
When Syreena is captured and taken away by the powerful Demon traitor named Ruth, Damien races to her rescue. To save Syreena's life, Damien must bite her, which is against vampire law. Before the pair knows it, they are too attracted to one another to stay apart. Can the Vampire Prince and Lycanthrope Princess find a way to be together? And when Ruth gets a powerful new partner, can anyone stop them?
**** There seems to be some filler pages in installment of the Nightwalker series. The entire prologue seems unnecessary to me, as well as the mentioning and information of some characters. Otherwise this story is as great as the ones before it. This is not the author's best work, but it is enjoyable. A note to possible new readers, be sure to read this series in order or you will have major spoilers. ****

The sparks in this book 4 of the Nightwalker series never quite manage to get as hot as the ones in book 3, but they come close.
The couple is very sexy- and very sexy together, and they face seemingly even higher obstacles than our previous couples. Their loyalty to their families and races plays a large role- as large as in Elija and when they overcome these issues it is all the sweeter.
There are one or two events that managed to rub me the wrong way. Issues of trust between friends and loyalty to your partner are the main points of tension. Syreena has to tolerate being treated poorly by Damien's closest confidant and friend and this is never really resolved- but it is also acknowledged and it becomes clear that character will have her own story at some point. But, MAN, it is irritating to read!
In the end, I was happy with this book, but it was a little bit of a "you are lucky you turned out so well or you would have been TOAST" moment between me and the book. Rather than putting it down with a happy sigh, I put it down with a grudging sigh of relief and a growl of warning, if you will!
However, overall, I love this series and can't wait to read more. This story in particular managed to further the overall plot adding more interesting ways to combine future stories and conflicts.
Well, I just love Damien! Almost as much as I love Gideon although Noah and Gideon are competing for top spot. Syreena is a little complicated, but fascinating and sympathetic. The one I can't stand is Jasmine. I mean I REALLY dislike that character. And I'm disappointed when in this book (or is it the next one, too?) Damien lets Jasmine jerk him around. Not just that she talks him into doing things that will disrupt his life with Syreena, but also because he lets her talk disrespectfully of Syreena. The first time she criticizes her he chastises Jasmine, but after that she always lets him know clearly that she thinks Syreena is just a nothing and he lets her get away with it. I can't see Jacob, Gideon or Elijah letting ANYONE (including relatives) talk the same way about their wives. I felt it was out of character with the way Damien is in the rest of the book and how he treats Syreena the rest of the time. Worse luck, it looks like I'm stuck with Jasmine in and out of the next book and starring in the last one. Grrrrr. As far as the story and Damien, though, I wouldn't miss it--I love this series!
Xe Sands excels with narrating this series, I wouldn't have read the books if I hadn't heard parts of them featuring her narration first. Each character, and there are many, has a unique voice which is the accent from the country of their origin. Can I guarantee accent authenticity? No, but I'd listen to this series just to hear Sands voicing them. Plus she brings the couple, their feelings and the circumstances, to life in a way that is beyond my abilities. And that's hard to do, I read in Technicolor.
When it comes to audiobooks narration is what is most important to me because I have generally read a book or parts of it before listening to it, but here's a short overview of the story from my POV.
Damien, Prince of the Vampires, enters the inter-species marrying loop in Jacquelyn Frank's fourth Nightwalker entry. Damien is my favorite in this series for two reasons. First, it keeps moving, whether by dialogue or action and without the verboseness that irked me previously. Second, it could slide onto a bookshelf at Goodreads entitled "avid seduction of a hesitant heroine". Damien truly is a prince when it comes to his pursuit of Syreena. That he made her pay some dues was excellent - I loved him.
Damien is the acknowledged leader of the Vampires, but it's a role that keeps him looking over his shoulder. Syreena, the Lycanthrope princess, has always longed for a husband and family, but Fate's choice throws her. Damien readily accepts the bond between them and Syreena is captivated but she wants definitive proof that the bond is possible between their races. That proof may be found in the recently discovered Nightwalker library but working to unite the Nightwalker's against their expanding enemy comes first.
I like this book but have to say it was a bit of a wonder to me. It wasn't as great as the first one Jacob in the series. It was just okay. I didn't feel the tension in the main characters that should have been there. There was action but not the tension needed to keep me there. The one character I wanted to spank and tell to go up.
