The Forever Show Marcus Damanda 9781494784744 Books

The Forever Show is the kind of book that keeps you turning pages. The author has a talent for leaving a scene at just the right moment so you want to read just one more chapter to find out what happened.

Vampires, to some, have gotten boring, but Mr. Damanda's version of vampires (strigoi) are unique and interesting while still keeping some old world vampire rules. He does a good job of "fleshing out" their motivations and character, making them compelling protagonists. Forget most of your preconceived notions of vampires, because this is a different ride.

There are usually a few different characters that we're following and the switch between them is seamless and smooth, not confusing. The author does a great job of integrating a great variety of characters and events into a very coherent story. Also, the
plot has enough subtle twists to keep the reader off balance. If you think you know where this is going, you're in for some surprises. No
characters are safe, now matter how sympathetic, and that makes it truly scary.

The Forever Show Marcus Damanda 9781494784744 Books Reviews

Damanda adds freshness to the vampire genre. There are numerous scenes and characters that the author ties neatly together, without detracting from character development or tension. Overall, the pacing is superb. I’m familiar with some of the author’s other works, so this didn’t disappoint—The Forever Show is another page-turner. With a dark setting and storyline of teens versus vampires, this is a must-read horror story.
Though the story is brutal and full of evil and death, the center is a strong and loving heart, full of courage and integrity. A small band of friends struggles to protect each other, their families and their town from the scourge sweeping through -- these teens face death and worse. Each of them is someone unique and worthwhile, interesting, funny, smart; together they are the heart of the story, their love and sacrifice the thread of hope for the future.

I read the book through without putting it down, and I can't wait for the story to continue!
This is a layered and complex horror tale that makes you feel dismay, triumph, anxiety and relief, plus a bunch more feels. I am amazed at how Damanda managed to hold all the strings of this story together like a rather scary puppeteer! I was left shocked but strangely pleased with the outcome. I got attached to the characters, cared about them, and cheered for them when they found inner reserves of strength or compassion. The vampires are so believable. I was even able to get invested in what they cared about. A very skillful author and a deeply disturbing but satisfying read.
The Forever Show is an awesome book that is a roller coaster ride from start to finish. I am a huge fan of Marcus Damanda's work and like his other works, this book has a large cast of characters that you get to know very well. From the kindhearted Lexi to the mischievous Summer, it is hard to pick a favorite character! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading YA horror fiction and isn't afraid of a little bit of gore!
Characters are what drive this book. They intrigue. On one side there is the high school kids. With all their quirks and insecurities. Normal kids looking to have fun at the fair. Then there is Casper's family. They are not normal. They feed and kill on normal. Even among the not normal(read Vampires) they are outcast and deranged. Each character is defined by how they respond to or cause the scenes in the book. Summer's is a perfect example of how she shapes her actions to her wants and not to the head of the family Casper. Following orders is something that neither vampires or teens do well.

The writing flows seamlessly from scene to scene making the book suck you in and before you know it mayfield is home.

This book is like watching a multi car crash that was started by something innocuous then slow builds to encompass the whole road, in a good way. You know it can't get worse, right. But cars and surprises keep coming. A guilty pleasure of blood. But you knew that this being a horror and vampire book.
I'll level with you…I set the bar a bit high when I downloaded this book. A big fan of Marcus's and Jessica's work, I knew it would be good but did it have what it took to outshine The Devil in Miss Drake's Class? There was only one way to find out and all I can say now is WHOA. It took me a little over a week to be done with this book ONLY because I dragged it out as long as I possibly could. Something I am very good at. I won't summarize the story, this review is three years late and the other reviewers have already done a pretty good job at that, but I will say that the magic in the Forever Show comes from the characters. From the ordinary folk who're just out to live life comfortably to the supernatural wrecking balls that are Casper and his family, almost everyone brings something to the table.

But what I love most about this book other than its fleshed out characters and talented writing is that Marcus will do what most teenage-targeting authors wouldn't dream of. It's challenging to find a story where everything doesn't just turn out alright for the protagonist(s). A story where the challenge gets so great we remember our hero is not unbeatable and can lose. So Marcus's strigoi are vampire gods right up there with 30 Days of Night and 13 Bullets, because they are absolutely ruthless when they want something. If they're in the way, not even the kids are untouchable. More often than not a writer will play it safe and stay away from child brutalities, but Marcus doesn't. It's horrifying and miserable and it makes the reader, at least in my case, turn the pages even faster to discover how much worse things can get.
That's what I enjoyed, among other things.
So if you want a vampire story worth a damn, come down to The Forever Show. Don't forget to add Jessica's narration, too. Describing her voice is a spoiler in and of itself!
