Legacy A Teen Science Fiction Fantasy Series The Outliers Book 2 eBook Claire Chilton

In this second book I feel like the story has graduated from a teen series to a young adult series. Its gotten more complex,(better), and has me riveted to my seat. There's a big build up coming at the end that was well worked toward throughout the book. Details are precise and nothing left to guess work here. You'll love this book. Magic enters into play.

Legacy A Teen Science Fiction Fantasy Series The Outliers Book 2 eBook Claire Chilton Reviews

I am so disappointed in this book. I purchased this book for an elementary school book club project and there was no mention in the write up about the language. Usually a fair warning is given (i.e., sexual situations or language), but with no warning, I chose it. Was I surprised to see the F word in chapter 4. We had to stop reading it, as it was very inappropriate for my readers. I decided to see if the story was any good, for myself. YUK! It was horribly written (all of these little paragraphs) and really, what a dumb plot. A neat freak society is overrun with a disease that makes teens "depressed," and our "heroine" must save the day. Only she is obnoxious and so unbelievably smart - I don't think so. Bad character development, poor plot line, and really immature writing style. Don't read this one! I'm begging you! don't do it!
It was fun and interesting. Not a hard book to read so if you dont want to think too hard its a good one.
Whatever Became of the Squishies is a highly enjoyable story cast in a comically dystopian future. I loved the characters, the humor and the social commentary. I'd recommend it for teenagers and adults. If you like Jaspar Fforde's books, you'll probably enjoy this too.
If you want a read where you can immeditatly see the author has a great sense of humor- this book is for you. There was tons of sarcasm that just made me laugh. Make sure to read the book from cover to cover to not miss all the extras )

This was a good book that has all the science fiction elements to it, yet makes you smile along the way.
This wasn't a bad story but It felt unfinished and I would have liked a better explanation of just why Carla's special powers suddenly left her.
I tried to like this book, but kept getting distracted. It didn't make any sense. Maybe I should eat a brownie.
I've read a lot of middle grade and YA fiction and fantasy and I'm a big fan of tween heroines. Heck, I think Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm is a take-no-crap pistol and Pollyanna could be my lifestyle guru. But, you know, an awful lot of the tween ground has been plowed over and over, and there's only so much you can do with school, family drama, boys, mean girls and the like.

Enter this book; a one-off hit that revitalizes the genre, as it entertains. Carla is a lilac misfit in the colony of the green-skinned, with a clumsy knack for getting herself into trouble and for attracting unfair punishments. She is smart, observant, good-hearted, and fundamentally appealing as a character. There has been a lot of emphasis in the blurbs and reviews about her being sarcastic, but I find her less sarcastic and more tart and no-nonsense. That's great because sarcastic can often drift into snarky and/or self-pitying, and this Carla character has too much self-confidence and tenacious style to be just a smart-mouth sad sack victim.

So, not to put too fine an edge on it, we have a feisty heroine, strong and well defined supporting characters, a nice fantasy world rich in metaphorical significance aimed at the understanding of a younger reader, a compelling plot, and a lot of snappy one-liners. All wrapped up by an author who obviously has a real fondness for the characters, for the world she has created, and for the real world. How can this be bad?

Please note that I found this book while browsing freebies. I have no connection at all to the author or the publisher of this book.
