I hate leaving bad reviews, but just really needed to say something after reading this. First of all, the bad grammar throughout the story is cringeworthy. I would have stopped reading but I have never started a book without finishing it, so I forced my way thru.
To confuse matters, just when I had accepted the bad narrative - a new chapter comes along with a different narrative... And suddenly the writing is actually good? It's almost like someone else stepped in and wrote a chapter. Then it switches back to the original narrative, making me wonder if it was intentionally written badly?
Anyways... The plot has potential, but falls short. None of the characters have any substance, and putting up with stuff like this . . .
"They couldn't have walked into a trap. Well didn't they? Malik quivered his lips loose, being curious by Jean-Pierre's strange statement."
. . . all through the book only to find an ending that is lacking any satisfaction or closure and didn't make any sense.

This dystopian fantasy follows the adventures of a boy called Malik as he encounters a machine that sends him to a crazy place escape from which seems to be very hard. The story keeps you on the edge of the seat and characters are so vivid. This is a good read for the readers of dystopian fantasy.
I am shocked at the high ratings for this book. While the author writes in a clear and easy to understand style, that is the only positive thing I can say. We learn next to nothing about any of the characters, even the main one. No depth of development at all. Many characters simply vanish with no explanation. The plot is entirely linear. No side or subplots as you expect in every other novel. And you can see the ending coming for the last 50 pages, so no surprise there. Davon Custis needs to stop self publishing and get himself a good editor. This is the only book I've read in years that I'm sorry I bought.
Terror meets technology in Devon Curtis’s book “The Memory of Lost Dreams.” Teenagers have a fresh appellation of intrigue and selecting this age is masterful. The story has an excellent ARC and the hook is prevalent from the beginning. Fiction has its inherent creativity and Curtis taps into this well with his Alice-In-Wonderland escape from childhood reality. Curtis offers a nice array of suspense and drama to keep the reader interested. I strongly recommend this book for an eventful read while relaxing or traveling.
It is hard to think of what to say about this book. The title is about as good as it gets. I know how difficult it is to get your work published, let alone promoted, and for that reason I find it difficult to speak kindly about this book, which has very little to recommend it. The story line is stale, predictable, and lacks cohesion. The characters are undeveloped...but what truly sets it apart from others like it, is the narrative,which is so overwrought, and so suffused with meaningless, often incongruous detail, that one cannot help but laugh, and perhaps that might be a positive thing. The whole seems to have been typed on a device with automatic spelling, and the result is often hilarious...read at your own peril...
I could not finish this book. The misused words and grammatical errors made the story unreadable.

Thus, you may be surprised to find me giving this book two stars.

Even though I didn't read too much of the book before abandoning it, what I DID read showed me that this author has potential. A good editor might have saved this story. I can't be sure, since I could not finish it, but, the story itself seemed to be starting off well enough and I certainly could see the potential for a good book, if properly edited.

I'd encourage the author to re-do this one, with proper editing, and to continue writing, as I believe the author has what it takes to tell a good story, but just needs a little help to make it readable and perhaps give it a little polish.
Malik Soules is a boy from a rather primitive background who finds himself in an unfamiliar world of technology and ultra-strict laws. In this strange world, time means nothing. Many people came there, hoping for a Utopian society, but it never happened. Malik is trapped in this nightmarish world with no obvious means of escape.

Devon Curtis does a wonderful job creating a dystopian world of terror for young Malik. He presents the teen’s naivety in a way that makes the reader care what happens to him. The writing is vivid and flows very well. It’s a fast read that hooked me from the beginning. This is an impressive debut from a talented new author. I cannot wait to see more from him in the future. Recommended to fans of dystopian fiction.
Davon Custis blends elements of dystopian world building, virtual reality and time travel into the central premise of this sci-fi work. It follows the journey of Malik Soules, a naive young man who flees his village after clashing with the village chief. He comes upon the ruins of ancient city and stumbles upon a device inside a library that transports him to another time and place. Malik is sent to Imperia and is drawn into their conflict with Themis

Custis creates some vivid characters and weaves fascinating ideas into the narrative. It leaves plenty to your imagination and lets the readers fill in the blanks. The story has a ton of potential and you can tell he has put some thought into building this world. I enjoyed the visual imagery in some of the descriptions.

The main drawback for me is that it could have gone through another draft to polish out the rough edges. The writing is uneven, with some glaring grammatical errors at various points. The dialogue tends to be a bit stilted and formal and it feels unnatural at times as a result. Some of the descriptive language has unnecessary filler that could be removed to make the imagery and characters more powerful.

Overall, if you enjoy dystopian sci-fi, it is worth giving this book a read.
